The various characteristics of coffee in Indonesia, it is incomplete if it does not discuss the "kopi joss" original coffee of Yogyakarta. The uniqueness of this coffee has been widely known by the public, to foreign countries. Overseas Opi joss is known as "The Charcoal Coffee".
The naming is appropriate, because this coffee presentation is quite eccentric compared to other coffees. We can find this coffee when it is north of Yogyakarta Station, precisely in angkringan stalls lined up along the road. For those who do not know, this shop is a wheelbarrow that offers a variety of traditional foods and drinks at fairly cheap prices. The price of Joss Coffee in angkringan is around IDR 5,000.
Kopi joss is served differently, because of the type of coffee is a traditional coffee bean imported from the Klaten area, Yogyakarta Special Region.
the most characteristic feature of Kopi Joss is the presentation to customers, namely by dipping the charcoal into the coffee cup that we will drink. Charcoal that has been burned in a furnace is taken and tapped to ensure dust is removed and is safe for dipping in coffee. Coffee will continue to explode when the charcoal is dipped, until the coals in the charcoal have died.
Coffee is a unique drink and has an extraordinary taste for its lovers. I am not a coffee lover but enjoy coffee with millions of pleasures. When I visited the shady city of Jogja City, I took the time to find a drink known as "Coffee Joss". Kopi Joss itself comes from the sound released from the charcoal put into a cup of coffee that reads "joss ..." so that it is known as Coffee Joss.
Joss coffee is different from other coffee in general. Actually the manufacturing process is no different from traditional coffee making in general. But what makes it different from this coffee is the addition of wood charcoal which is inserted into a cup of coffee which gives a different sensation of experience when drinking it.
The process of making Kopi Joss is very simple. Based on what I observed from the seller I bought, first put ground coffee into the glass and then put the sugar according to the requested sweetness level. But for the beautiful and the sweet, don't have too much sugar, it's sweet to see. Continue. After coffee and sugar, then boiling water is poured into a glass and stir until evenly distributed and the aroma of coffee comes out. After that, take the red charcoal and burn it with your hands, of course, it is helped by a clamp of charcoal to pick it up. Put two three charcoal burning into the glass. Jossssss …… ..the sound was soft but enough to be heard in my ears. I saw the glass emit smoke like a coal, it was doused with water. That's when the aroma of coffee smoke came out to my nose. Along with the aroma of coffee, glass has been offered in front of me and I accept it.
This coffee joss location is close to Tugu Jogja Station, its location adjacent to the railroad tracks is only blocked by a concrete wall of about one and a half meters. With a view of the train that is milling about coming and going, the roar of the train engine always accords the sound at this location. A very cool atmosphere to enjoy coffee. It was afternoon before my afternoon there.
For visitors who walk quite easily, you can come from the Malioboro road to the Jogja monument station then cross the railroad tracks, and many jos coffee are sold there on the left side of the road, the road is one-way. And for motor cyclists, it's not difficult to park their vehicles because they can be parked on the side of the road. However, for those who use the car it seems that they cannot park anywhere on the roadside.
To make it easier for us to find my location, share a location that sells joss coffee in Jogja via google maps below.
A little story about coffee to end this story, coffee has also given life meaning to me. Behind the bitter coffee there are millions of flavors in a cup of coffee. Just as life is bitter, but with gratitude and effort there are millions of flavors in life.
Sorry for my error, and thank you for taking the time to read.
